The Missouri Tiger tennis team played strong and swept the A, B, and C singles titles at the Drake Invitational over the weekend. The Tigers also took home the A and B doubles titles. In the B flight final, Carolyn Kramer defeated Drake's Allison Wilke 6-1, 6-1, and in the C singles final, the Tigers were assured a win as both Charlotte Bellis and sophomore Yelena Olshanskaya each defeated three opponents to reach the finals. Olshanskaya took the final over Bellis in a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 match.
In doubles play, the Tigers assured themselves of a win in the top flight with solid play on Saturday. The team of Katka Sevcikova/Hana Kraftova and the team of Erika Josbena/Charlotte Bellis each won three matches to advance to Sunday's flight A final. In the final, Sevcikova and Kraftova defeated their teammates 8-2 to claim the title. In the B flight final, Lubica Nadasska and Carolyn Kramer defeated Drake's Cheen Alkhatib and Eve Rusdianto 8-3.
Sevcikova finishes fall play with a team best 14-1 singles record which includes three tournament titles. Furthermore, the Tigers finish fall play with seven different members each claiming a singles tournament championship during the fall.
"It's been a good fall, and I'm proud of the team," said MU head coach Blake Starkey. "We can't be content, though. It is important we keep working for the challenges in front of us, and not get complacent because we've won a handful of matches at this point. It is important that a few of our girls get healthy. But they have worked hard, and now it's time for preseason conditioning in preparation for spring, and to finish strong academically."
