Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Missouri Women's Tennis Team picked up it's first win of the season after defeating the host school, Minnesota, 4-3 at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Tigers clinched the doubles point with wins at #2 and #3 doubles. The teams then split singles action as the Tigers picked up tight wins in spots 4-6. With the score tied at three wins each, the match came down to senior Carolyn Kramer's match vs. Minnesota's Mariana Bugatenco, of Russia. Overcoming a 4-2 third set deficit as well as a loud pro-Minnesota crowd, the St. Louis native ripped off the final four games to take the match, and secure the team win for Mizzou. By winning today, the Tigers advance to tomorrow's final where they will take on #29 Oregon.
"Tyler is doing a very great job with this Minnesota team," MU Coach Blake Starkey said. "This was a very tight match, and we're fortunate we got it. It came down to depth, and we made some adjustments that got a few of their players out of their rhythms, and we were then able to capitalize at key points. Tomorrow, we play a very good Oregon team, which will be a great national opportunity for us. It's a no lose situation, and we hope to battle well."
