Columbia, Mo. - Two days after knocking off border rival Kansas, the Missouri women's tennis team was defeated 5-2 Sunday afternoon by Kansas State at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia, Mo.
"Today just wasn't our day," said Head Coach Blake Starkey. "We played really well in some spots, and in some spots we definitely need to make improvements."
Kansas State (6-9, 3-4 Big 12) quickly earned the doubles point, taking the first two matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Ana Gomez Aleman and Carmen Borau Ramos dropped senior Kristen Bleakley and freshman Andrea Lewis to 6-8 this season with an 8-2 victory at No. 3. Nina Sertic and Petra Chuda clinched the point with an 8-2 win over sophomore Jamie Mera and senior Sofia Ayala at No. 2. In the remaining doubles match, juniors Mallory Weber and Kaitlyn Ritchie pulled through with a win for the Tigers in a tiebreaker at No. 1 over Antea Huljev and Karla Bonacic, 8-7 (1). The win improves the MU duo to 4-3 in league play.

Junior Kaitlyn Ritchie notched her second conference win of the season at No. 1 singles, defeating Anteal Huljev in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
"I'm so proud of Kaitlyn and how she played today. She battled her way through that third set," said Starkey. The Wildcats won the other four singles contests.
