No. 74 Missouri Disarms Cowgirls

Columbia, Mo. – Missouri continued conference play when they faced the Oklahoma State Cowgirls at 1 p.m. in the Green Tennis Center on Sun., April 3. The Tigers are now 10-7 overall and 2-5 Big 12. The Missouri Tigers had success with a change in the doubles lineup against the Cowgirls. At No. 1 doubles, the pairing of Mallory Weber and Marlen Hacke handled their opponents 8-4 while Kailtyn Ritchie and Maria Christensen at No. 2 overcame Oklahoma State after winning the tiebreaker 7-4 (7-7). Missouri's Jamie Mera and Rachel Stuhlmann paired up at No. 3 to seal a victory 8-5. The Tigers won the doubles point and all their doubles matches across the board for an early lead over the Cowgirls. However, the doubles point was overturned and given to Oklahoma State.
Weber continued the weekend at No. 1 singles where she dominated Nataliya Shatkovskaya 6-2, 6-2. Missouri's Ritchie also had a successful day and won her match in the third set 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Christensen finished off her opponent after she won the first set 6-3, dropped her second set 2-6 and won the third set 6-4. Hacke attempted to overcome C.C. Sardinha after losing her first set 4-6 and won her second 6-1. Sardinha pulled through with a 6-3 win just passing by Hacke at No. 4. Mera also challenged her opponent but fell 3-6, 2-6. Stuhlmann edged over Sarah Meghoufel of Oklahoma State 6-4 to finish competition early. The Tigers won 4-3.
Missouri will play on the road against Kansas on Fri., April 8 at 4 p.m. Following play in Lawrence, the Tigers will face Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. at 1 p.m. on Sun., April 10. Home play will commence at noon on Sun., April 17 against Texas Tech. Weather permitting the Tigers will play at Bethel Park.
