COLUMBIA, MO. – Mizzou (3-1) is coming off of an impressive showing in the opening week of the spring season in which the Tigers won three matches with the only loss coming at No. 8 California. Mizzou has shown incredible fight in its first four matches, and hopes to carry over some of that momentum into this weekend. Mizzou is set to face Kansas State (4-2) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. C.T. with a doubleheader on Sunday against Wichita State (2-1) at 10 a.m. C.T. and UMKC (1-3) at 6 p.m. C.T.
TIGERS COMPLETE SUCCESSFUL TRIP THROUGH UTAH
- Mizzou defeated Utah State and BYU last week to bring its record to 3-1.
- The Utah trip saw the emergence of freshman Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) as a weapon in singles play. She won her first career dual singles match at No. 5 against Utah State and followed that up by coming from behind to earn a dual clinching victory in the No. 6 spot against BYU.
- Middlebrooks now owns a 9-3 overall record in singles play dating back to the fall season. That is tied for the best record on the team with junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.)
- Fellow freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.) continues to impress early in the season as she improved her dual singles record to 3-0 with a pair of wins against both Utah State and BYU. She is doing most of her damage from the No. 4 spot, but earned a victory at No. 3 singles against Utah State.
- Junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) won both of her singles matches in Utah, bringing her dual record to an impressive 3-1. The wins give Ismail a 9-4 overall singles record, tied for the most singles wins on the team with Middlebrooks and Lashway.
NEWCOMERS SHINE
- Mizzou introduced four new players to its lineup this season and has been rewarded with 48 of the team's 75 victories.
- Ismail, a transfer from Xavier, leads the team with 18 overall wins, nine in singles and nine in doubles.
- Ismail had great success in the fall season with senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) and Lashway in doubles play. She posted a 3-0 doubles record with Lashway during the Big Green Invitational, including a 6-4 victory over the No. 29 doubles pairing of Nicole Robinson/Andjela Djokovic from Purdue.
- Middlebrooks is tied with Lashway for the best singles record on the team at 9-3.
- Not to be outdone, Schroeder put has put together seven singles wins, playing mostly in the No. 4 position. She and Middlebrooks are the only Tigers to still hold an unblemished singles record in dual play.
- Schroeder hit her stride late in the fall season when she won three straight doubles matches in the Big Green Invitational with her partner, Spearman. The pairing was able to extend that winning streak to five games before dropping a doubles match against BYU. The duo has the second-best record of any Mizzou doubles pairing this year at 5-2. Only Ismail and Machado Santos (6-2) have a better record.
- Freshman Claire Sullivan (Memphis, Tenn.) showed consistent improvement in the fall season, posting a 2-1 singles record during the Big Green Invitational. She finished the fall season with four victories.
100 WIN CLUB
- Two different Tigers surpassed 100 career wins during the fall campaign.
- Machado Santos earned her 100th career win in her opening singles match of the ITA Central Region Championships against South Dakota State's Iasmin Rosa. Machado Santos took the match 6-2, 6-4 to cement herself in Mizzou Tennis history.
- Ismail recorded her 100th career win in the Big Green Invitational. She defeated Yale's Sherry Li, 4-6,6-4, 7-6 (4) on the first day of the tournament to reach the 100-win plateau.
SCOUTING KANSAS STATE
- The Wildcats bring a four match-winning streak into Friday's matchup against Mizzou. KSU lost its first two matches of the season to Washington and Hawaii before rattling off four straight wins to get to its 4-2 mark.
- In the four match win streak, KSU has only given up one point, winning the four matches by a combined score of 27-1 over the likes of South Dakota, Missouri State, UMKC and UConn.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
- The Shockers enter the weekend with a 2-1 record.
- After winning its season debut over Missouri State 7-0, Wichita State traveled to Oklahoma for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The Shockers fell in the opening matchup against TCU but recovered to score a 4-1 victory over Cornell the next day.
- Wichita State has not played a competitive match since January 29.
SCOUTING UMKC
- The Roos hold a 1-3 record headed into the weekend.
- After starting the season 0-2 with two 7-0 losses, UMKC earned its first dual victory of the season by taking down South Dakota, 4-3. The Roos followed that win with a tough 4-3 loss to UConn last Sunday in Kansas City.
- Mizzou's Tate Schroeder defeated UMKC's Melinda Johnson on the first day of the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships in the fall by a score of 7-5, 6-2.
