URBANA-CHAMPAGNE, IL – The University of Missouri tennis team (2-3) fell to the University of Illinois (6-3) in the annual Braggin' Rights match, 0-4, on Sunday, Feb. 13.

The Tigers made a strong case against the Illini starting with doubles play. Romary Cardenas and Ellie Wright were seconds away from securing their first doubles win of the season, up 5-4 in the match, but Illinois secured the point and the contest was declared unfinished.

Bronte Murgett fought back against Kate Duong, winning the second set, 6-3, after dropping the first, 3-6. Murgett was up 3-2 in the third set, but her match was also left unfinished.

Elys Ventura came out swinging with a 6-4 first set victory over Kida Ferrari. Ventura was in the midst of a second set comeback before her match was confirmed unfinished as Illinois claimed their four points to win the competition before she could close.

"A bit of a slow start today made it difficult for us to win the doubles point." Said coach Chris Wootton, "All the credit to the Illini for holding a very high level of tennis all day. We will focus on better starts and a relentless focus in our first sets on Tuesday against the Hawkeyes."

Mizzou finishes up a long stretch of road matches at the University of Iowa on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 12 p.m.
