AUSTIN, Texas – Mizzou baseball dropped the finale of its three-game Southeastern Conference to No. 6 Texas, 12-7, on Saturday afternoon at Disch-Falk Field to conclude its regular season.
The Tigers (23-30, 6-24 SEC) received a solo home run from freshman Blaize Ward in the top of the first and Pierre Seals followed suit with a solo shot in the third to knot the game at two runs apiece after three.
In the bottom of the fourth, Texas (40-12, 19-10 SEC) erupted for six runs to jump out to an 8-2 lead. Mizzou relievers Eli Skidmore, Isaiah Salas and Ian Lohse combined to throw up zeroes in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, keeping the Longhorns' offense at bay.
Mizzou came charging back in the top of the eighth inning, kickstarted by catcher Mateo Serna's two run double into the right-center gap that scored Kam Durnin and Ward. Tyler Macon followed it up with a two-out, pinch-hit RBI single before Chris Patterson delivered a clutch, two-run double into left-center field to make it a five-run frame and a one-run game.
However, the Longhorns answered in the bottom half of the inning with four runs of their own to make the score 12-7. The Tigers got a leadoff double from Jase Woita in the ninth but were unable to bring him home as the Longhorns took the finale, 12-7.
