Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri Women?s Soccer team shutout its second straight opponent Sunday wih a 3-0 victory over Oklahoma State at Walton Stadium. The Tigers set an amazing record in the match, allowing only one shot for the match and zero shots in the second half. Missouri improved its record to 10-3-0 overall and 5-1 in Big 12 play, while the Cowgirls fell to 3-11 and 1-5. Senior goalkeepers Jakcie Adamec and Liz LaTour combined for the shutout in goal.
?We played a very good game today,? Head Coach Bryan Blitz said. ?Our depth played a role in this game as we were able to play alot of people and get them some time in conference action.?
MU?s first goal came at 5:49 after the Tigers had peppered the Oklahoma State keeper. Kristin Boeker sent a rifle shot at the net that struck the crossbar and bounced towards Sarah Sallee. The sophomore forward headed a shot on goal that partially deflected off the crossbar and the OSU keeper. Nikki Thole was there to head the loose ball in the net for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Thole?s 14th of the season, her sixth in Big 12 Conference play. Sallee got her fifth assist of the season.
The Tigers struck again at 16:20 as Amy Timmermann sent a perfect cross into the box which glanced off Thole and right to the feet of Sallee about ten yards out. Sallee settled and one-timed a shot into the left corner for her fifth goal. Timmermann now leads the Tigers with eight assists, six of which have come in Big 12 Conference play. Missouri led 2-0.
Missouri continued to attack the net, netting another goal at 57:36 when a Kristin Boeker corner kick was knocked in by senior Mandy Pavlovits for a 3-0 lead. The goal was Pavlovits second of the season. Boeker registered third assist on the corner.
It was the first time Missouri has shutout consecutive opponents and the team?s five regular season Big12 wins to this point, ties a season-high by the Tigers. After weekend competition, Missouri now stands alone in second place of the Big 12 standings.
Missouri next plays Friday, October 15 when they play at Iowa State at 4pm. The Tigers then travel to Nebraska for a match aganist the No. 3 Cornhuskers in Lincoln at 1pm on Sunday, October 17.
