Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri Head Women's Soccer Coach BRYAN BLITZ has announced the hiring of JENNY HAIGH (HAI-g) as assistant coach for the Missouri program. Haigh will take over the duties of ALISA PYKETT who will leave the Tiger program after two seasons to pursue other interests. The staff change is effective March 1, 2000.
"Mizzou is a great program and a team that has made great strides over the past two seasons," Haigh said. "Bryan Blitz has the ability to put Missouri in contention for a national championship and I am excited to be a part of a program that is moving so quickly."
"We are thrilled to have Jenny join the Missouri family," Blitz said of his new assistant coach. "She brings a wealth of winning experience and tremendous character that can only strengthen our program and help us towards our goal of winning a national championship at Missouri."
Haigh comes to Missouri after spending three seasons as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Arizona State University. The Pacific-10 Conference school finished the 1999 season with a 13-6-0 record, its best ever mark, in its fourth season of play.
In her time at ASU, Haigh distinguished herself as one of collegiate soccer's finest recruiters. Many NCAA soccer insiders have listed the 2000 ASU recruting class among the best nationwide and both the 1999 and 1998 recruiting classes received regional ranking. Soccer Buzz also ranked the 1998 ASU class at No. 22 in the nation.
A four-year letterwinner at the University of Wisconsin (1991-95), Haigh made four trips to the NCAA Soccer Tournament during her Badger career, including an appearance in the 1991 National Championship match. She was voted team captain for the 1995 season and was named the most improved player in both 1992 and 1994. Haigh also earned two All-Big Ten Academic selections for her classroom efforts.
In 1996, Haigh played one season in the Professional League Division I for Jonkoping, Sweeden. Following that season, she joined the staff at ASU for the 1997 season.
A 1995 graduate of Wisconsin, Haigh holds a bachelor of arts degree in history and sociology and is currently pursuing a master's degree in higher education. She is a native of Minnesota.
