Manhattan, Kan. - The University of Missouri women's golf team is in first place after two rounds of play at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, which is being contested at Colbert Hill Golf Club in Manhattan, Kan. The final round will be contested tomorrow.
Missouri opened with a team score of 305 in the morning round, and stood in second place, some seven strokes back of 1st-round leader Iowa State (1st - 298). But the Tigers rebounded with a 298 in the afternoon round, besting the Cyclones by 15 strokes, to take an eight stroke lead into tomorrow's final round of play. If MU holds on for the title, it would mark the Tigers' first of the young season.
Individually, Tiger senior Amelia Moses continued her stellar play. Moses, the defending Big 12 champion, is in first place through two rounds with a two-round score of 145 after firing rounds of 75 in the morning and a two-under par 70 in the afternoon. She holds a one-stroke lead over Lisa Meshke of Iowa State, who is second with a 146 score heading into tomorrow's final round.
All five Tigers competing in the tournament find themselves in the top 15 after the first day of play. Sophomore Elin Ohlsson finds herself tied for 3rd place with a 152 total through two rounds. She shot rounds of 73 and 79.
Junior Nisha Sadekar is two strokes back of Ohlsson, after rounds of 78 and 76 left her with a 154. That puts her alone in 10th place. Freshman Tara Jacobsen is tied for 11th place, after shooting rounds of 80 and 75 for a two-round total of 155. Senior Jamie Tucker is just one stroke back, tied for 14th with a 156 total.
Sophomore Nancy Driskill is competing as an individual, and is tied for 38th place after shooting rounds of 87 and 81 for a total of 168.
