Women's Golf Continues to Lead Big 12 Championships After Day Two

April 24, 2001

Harvester, Iowa - The University of Missouri women's golf team, bidding for its first-ever conference championship, fired a team score of 309 to and continue to lead the 2001 Big 12 Championships being held at The Harvester Golf Club in Harvester, Iowa. Play wraps up with third-round action on Wednesday. If the Tigers can take the title, it would be the second Big 12 conference championship a Missouri team of any kind has won since 1997 when the MU softball team won the schools championship.

Missouri holds a two-stroke lead over second-place Oklahoma State (630), and the nation's 9th-ranked team, Texas (630). Head Coach Tom Loyd's squad is in position to top its previous best finish in Big 12 history (4th, 1997 & 2000).

Defending Big 12 Champion and senior Amelia Moses became MU's first-ever conference champion last year in Lubbock and sits atop the leader board after day two, shooting a one-over par 73 after slating a seven-over par 79 on Monday. Teammate Jamie Tucker, who had the lead after yesterday's action, is still in the thick of things shooting a 79 on Tuesday and is currently in a three-way tie for second place with Oklahoma State's Maria Boden and Nebraska's Sarah Sasse heading into Wednesday's final round with a two-round total of 155.

Sophomore Elin Ohlsson, who was sitting in eight place after the first round, is now in a four way tie for 14th place overall, after shooting a second round score of 78 for a two-round total of 160. Teammate Nisha Sadekar, who was tied with Ohlsson in eighth place after day one, fell into a tie for 23rd with her two-day total of 162. Ohlson is only eight strokes off the lead while Sadekar is 10 behind the leader, Moses.

Rounding out the Tiger lineup was senior Jill Rosen, who stands in 56th place overall. After fighting the elements to a round of 99 in round one, Rosen fired a second round 79, improving her score on by a remarkable 20 strokes. The winner of the Big 12 Golf Tournament team competition receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Western Regional Championships, which take place May 10-12.
