
Tiger Wrestling Falls to Iowa State 26-16

The No. 9 ranked Missouri Tigers wrestling team fell to 12-2 on the year after No. 7 Iowa State downed MU 26-16 in Ames, Iowa on Thursday night.
Missouri got on the board first in the dual as junior Mark Bader defeated No. 13 ranked Ty Malia of Iowa State by a 5-2 decision. Bader improved to 13-11 on the season.
In the 133-pound match, ISU's Zack Roberson, the No. 8 ranked 133-pound wrestler, scored a technical fall over MU freshman Chris McCormick to put Iowa State up 5-3 in the dual.
Tiger sophomore J.P. Reese picked up an upset by, not only defeating, but pinning the No. 5 ranked wrestler in the 141-pound division, Aaron Holker in only 1:24. Reese is now 15-8 on the season and is tied for the team lead with nine pins.
At 149 pounds, No. 6 Billy Maldonado of Iowa State defeated MU sophomore Jeremy Spates by a 6-3 decision.
The Tigers dropped another tough decision at 157 pounds. Sophomore Kenny Burleson gave up four first period points and attempted to fight back, but could only score three points, falling to the No. 14 ranked Matt Veach 4-3.
The top-ranked wrestler in the 165-pound class, Joe Heskett of ISU, pinned Missouri redshirt freshman Tyron Woodley.
In the 174-pound class, MU senior John Kopnisky recorded his 99th career victory as a Tiger by defeating Nick Passolano with a 11-1 major decision. Kopnisky, ranked No. 10 at 174 pounds, improved to a team leading 19-3 on the season.
MU picked up a second straight win when junior Dante Stone defeated No. 16 Austen Palmer 2-0 in the 184-pound bout. Stone is now 13-8 on the season.
The 197-pound bout featured Missouri's Scott Barker, the No. 6 ranked 197-pound wrestler, facing No. 1 Cael Sanderson. Sanderson recorded a technical fall win over Barker. With the win, Sanderson remained perfect in his career with a record of 149-0.
No. 12 Mark Knauer of ISU downed MU junior Kevin Herron by a 15-3 score in the heavyweight match to give the Cyclones the 26-16 dual win.
The Tigers are now 12-2 on the season and 1-2 in the Big 12. The Cyclones improved to 14-5, 2-3 in the conference.
Next up for the Tigers is a non-conference dual against No. 20 Michigan State at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse.
