Mizzou Women's Golf Moves Into Top Spot at Tapatio Springs Shootout

Boerne, Texas. - The University of Missouri women's golf squad continued its outstanding play on Monday, moving past Texas Christian University to take the lead of the Tapatio Springs Shootout. The Tigers shot a second-round 305 and now have a team total of 616, one stroke better than TCU (617) heading into the final round. Coach Stephanie Cooper said she was extremely pleased with how the Tigers were performing up and down the lineup.

"We are getting solid contributions from our entire line up and we have put ourselves in a good position to contend for the championship here," Cooper said. "Its exciting to see the squad compete and focus on the course and do what it takes to compete at a high level."

Freshman Kelli Strubinger continued to be outstanding for the Tigers, following her one-under par 71 on Sunday with a 75 on Monday. She remains in second place for the tourney, just three shots off of the lead, which is held by TCU's DRae Ward (68-75=143).

After finishing the day in 32nd yesterday with an opening round of 81, Tiger senior Elin Ohlsson had a great day, firing a 75 to move into a two-way tie for 15th at 156 (+12).

Strubinger and Ohlsson's 75s were the second best individual rounds fired on Monday, trailing only North Texas' Randi Gauthier, who shot a 74 on the day.

Three other Tigers are in line to make a run at the Top 10 after Monday's great round. Moberly freshman Denise Knaebel is in 19th with a two-day total of 158 (75-83=158). Indiana native Stephanie Turner, who is competing as an individual, faltered a bit on Monday, shooting an 82 after starting the tourney with a 78 on Sunday. She is in a tie for 22nd at 160, just one stroke ahead of Tiger sophomore Maria Ohlsson, who shot a blinding 76 on Monday after opening with an 85 to open play yesterday. Junior Mindy Bullard improved her standing from the first round, shooting a 79 and moving into a tie for 33rd (163) to wrap up the Tiger's scoring on Monday.

Mizzou looks to clinch their first win of the year on Tuesday in the final round of tourney. They will play with TCU and Illinois in the final groups. Results will be posted tomorrow evening following final-round play on www.mutigers.com.
