Columbia, Mo. - Following two days of steady rainfall in College Station, Texas, the final round of the Big 12 Women's Golf Championships was cancelled due to unplayable conditions on Sunday. With the cancellation of the final round, the Championship was deemed as final after the 36 holes that were played on Friday and Saturday. The University of Missouri finishes the abbreviated tournament in sixth place after making a tremendous run on Saturday.
Junior Maria Ohlsson, and sophomores Denise Knaebel and Kelli Strubinger all recorded top 20 finishes in the event. Ohlsson registered a two day total of 147, putting her in a tie for fourth place. After shooting a 78 in the first round which put her in a tie for 32nd, Knaebel was brilliant in round two, firing an even-par 72 and finishing in a tie for 11th. The round of 72 equaled her best round of the spring. Strubinger moved from 28th to 16th after shooting a second-round 75 giving her a two-round total of 152, only three strokes out of the top 10.
The Tigers will now await their post-season fate, as regional bids will be announced on Monday afternoon. Mizzou is in search of its second straight NCAA Regional Qualification and a complete breakdown of their plans will be posted on www.mutigers.com following tomorrow's announcement.
