Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's golf squad has some work to do tomorrow in order for its 2003-04 season to continue. The Tigers fell to 12th place after shooting a 323 in the second round at the NCAA Central Regional Championships and now has a team total of 626. The Tigers can advance to the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history if they can make up eight strokes in Saturday's final round to move into eighth place, with the top eight finishers advancing to the next level of the post season.
Sophomore Kelli Strubinger remains the Tigers' top individual competitor, firing a team-best 79 on the day. She is only six strokes out of the top five and has a two day total of 153 heading into the final round. Sophomore Denise Knaebel is also in the hunt for a top 20 finish, as she is currently in a tie for 28th with a total of 155. She is only five strokes out of the top 10 and has historically been strong in the final round of tournaments.
Mizzou's team total of 323 on Friday was their worst effort in a single round this season. However, the Tigers have made hay in the final round of tournaments throughout the season, averaging a final round total of 298.9 through their 10 tournaments played.
