ANN ARBOR, Mich. -
Missouri junior men's golfer Ben Scott (Lancashire, United Kingdom / St. Theodore's HS) earned the second top-10 finish of his career Sunday afternoon at the Radrick Farms Intercollegiate Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Scott closed the two-day, three-round tournament with a 1-over-par 73, which put him at even-par 216. That was good for a career-best sixth-place finish. Scott's previous top-10 finish came in his freshman year, when he placed eighth at the Arkansas State Invitational.
As a team, the Tigers improved their four-player aggregate score in each round of the tournament. On Sunday, Mizzou shot a 6-over 294, yet could not improve on its 12th-place standing it entered the day with. Many of the schools near the Tigers fell back on Sunday; Missouri was just six strokes from sixth place.
Mizzou's best individual on Sunday was junior Chris Mabry (Leawood, Kan. / Bishop Miege HS), who fired a 1-under 71. His three-day total of 3-over 219 put him in a tie for 18th.
Among MU's other individuals, sophomore Trent Twaddle (Maryville, Mo. / Maryville HS) finished tied for 50th after shooting a final-round 75; sophomore Beau Crawford (La Plata, Mo. / Kirksville HS) matched that effort and closed the weekend out at 229 in a tie for 62nd, where he finished with sophomore transfer Shawn Jasper (Marthasville, Mo. / Francis Howell North HS / Newman Univ.). Jasper shot 77 on Sunday.
"It was good to see us go lower each round, so that was nice," said Head Coach Mark Leroux, who made his Tiger coaching debut this weekend. "It was probably easier to do that being in 12th place, but all in all it was what they needed to do when the other schools went backward. It was certainly a bright spot to have [Scott and Mabry] play well. I'm looking forward to getting back out there with these guys and looking forward to seeing who will join those two next week in South Bend."
The Missouri men return to action this coming Friday through Sunday at the Central Region Preview in South Bend, Ind. The Warren Course at Notre Dame will host the NCAA Central Regional in May; it, along with Lost Dunes GC, will both host this weekend's tournament.
