The No. 12 University of Missouri women's golf squad is in a tie for 12th place after the opening round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. The Tigers struggled in the opening round of the Invitational firing a 325 on the day. The three-day tournament is being played in Austin, TX, at the par-72, 6,323-yard University of Texas Golf Club.
"We didn't get off to the start we wanted to, but there is still a lot of golf to be played," Head Coach Stephanie Cooper said. "Our execution wasn't where it needs to be in order for us to compete at a high level and hopefully we regroup tomorrow and come out strong in the second round."
The Tigers' top performer was freshman Madde Augustsson, who is playing as an individual this weekend. The native of Sweden fired an opening round 75 to move into a tie for 8th place. Junior Kelli Strubinger fired a 79 on the day and is in a tie for 26th, just three strokes out of the top 10 on the leader board. Denise Knaebel (81 - T-48th), Mindy Bullard (82 - T57th), Maria Ohlsson (83 - T-63rd) and Stephanie Wavro (83 - T-63rd) all are in striking distance of the top 10 as well heading into Saturday's second round.
The Tigers will tee it up once again tomorrow morning. Live scoring will be provided at www.mutigers.com through www. Golfstat.com. Results will be available at www.mutigers.com following the second round.
