The University of Missouri Women's Golf squad moved up three spots into a tie for third place with Baylor on Saturday after the second round of the Big 12 Championships. Mizzou shot a 313 on the day and now has a two round total of 619 (+43) heading into Sunday's final round. The Championship is being played at the par-72, 6,323-yard University of Texas Golf Course just outside of Austin, TX. The Tigers shot the third best round of the day on Saturday and are just behind Oklahoma State (+26, 602) and Texas (+27, 603) heading into tomorrow's final round.
"The course played tougher today and we made a lot of good shots despite the weather," Head Coach Stephanie Cooper said. "We need to finish the tourney strong tomorrow, make the birdie putts we have struggled to make the first two rounds and see if we can make a run."
Senior Maria Ohlsson made a big move after shooting a 76 to move into a tie for third at 150. Ohlsson had two birdies on the day and is just two strokes out second place heading into tomorrow's final round. If Ohlsson can maintain her standing through Sunday, it would mark her second straight top-five finish at the Big 12 Championships after finishing fourth last season.
Junior Denise Knaebel struggled with a 79 in the second round and is in a tie for 18th. Despite her second round struggles, Knaebel is just five strokes out of the top five heading into the final round. Right there with Knaebel is fellow junior Kelli Strubinger who is also in a tie for 18th (77-78=155) after the second round and also in a good position for a top 10 finish tomorrow. Senior Mindy Bullard (T-31st, 79-80=159) and sophomore Stephanie Wavro (T-38th, 79-81=160) wrapped up the Tiger scoring on the day.
The Tigers will tee off in the final round tomorrow morning between 8-9 am. Live scoring will be provided at www.mutigers.com via www.golfstat.com. A complete recap of the entire tournament will be posted on www.mutigers.com following the round.
