Columbia, MO - The University of Missouri Women's Golf Team has qualified for the NCAA Central Regional, it was announced today by the NCAA Women's Golf selection committee. The Regional will be played in Lubbock, TX, May 5-7, at the Jerry S. Rawls Course in Lubbock, TX. This marks the third straight season and the seventh time in the last eight years that the Tigers have qualified for Regional competition. Head Coach Stephanie Cooper, who is in fourth year at the helm for the Tigers, said that her squad is focused and excited about the postseason opportunities that are ahead of them.
"We feel good about our seeding in the Central Regional, and we are very familiar with the competition we will be facing and the course we will be playing in Lubbock," Cooper said. "We have been extremely competitive this season and have played some really strong golf. We need to get some momentum going right out of the gate on Friday, make some birdies and make some history and advance to the NCAA Championships."
The top eight squads and the top two individuals who aren't on an NCAA Championship qualifying team from each of the three regionals will move on to the NCAA National Championships, which will be played May 17-20, in Corvallis, OR, at the Sunriver Resort. The Tigers have never advanced to the Championships and only one Tiger individual (Kristen Samp, 1996) has qualified for the event.
Mizzou is one of five schools from the Big 12 to compete in the Central Regional and one of six squads to qualify from the Conference (Oklahoma State is in the West Regional). Live scoring of the Regional will be provided at www.mutigers.com via www.golfstat.com. Mizzou is set to tee off with Arkansas and Michigan at 7:40 am on May. 5.
