Wavro, Hoeper in Top 10 After Opening Round of Big 12 Championships

LINCOLN, Neb. - - Mizzou is in eighth place after day one of the 2006 Big 12 Conference Women's Golf Championships, while a pair of Tigers are in the top 10 individually. Missouri shot a 313 in round one, which was played Monday at the Country Club of Lincoln in Lincoln, Neb.

Junior Stephanie Wavro and freshman Ellen Hoeper lead the way for Missouri, as each recorded an opening round of 76.

Wavro began play on the back-nine, shooting a one-over 37 and followed that with a 39 on her second nine. She made three birdies in her round and was even par through 13 holes, before bogies on four of her final five holes. Wavro is in a tie for 10th place in a group that includes Hoeper.

Hoeper birdied the eighth hole, her 17th hole on the day after starting on the back nine, to shoot a 76 on Monday. She recorded a one-over par 37 on the front nine after shooting 76 on the back nine.

Senior Kelli Strubinger is tied for 33rd place after an opening round 79 on Monday.

Sophomore Madde Augustsson recorded an opening round 82 and stands in a tie for 47th place, while freshman Chelsea Schriewer shot a 90 on Monday.

Oklahoma State leads the team competition with a score of 301 on day one. Texas A&M is in second place, one shot back after the opening round. Texas A&M's Ashley Knoll turned in the low round of the day, with a three-under par 69.
