LINCOLN, Neb. - - Missouri junior Stephanie Wavro shot a 75 in the final round of the Big 12 Conference Women's Golf Championships on Wednesday and took second place in the tournament, while Mizzou finished in a tie for fourth place in the team standings. The Tigers recorded a final round 327, finishing in a tie with Nebraska with a three-round total of 927.
Wavro's 54-hole total of 221 (76-70-75) was second best among the 60 participants in the field. The second-place finish is the best for a Tiger in the Conference Championships since Mindy Bullard took second in 2003. Wavro's three-round total was just one shot behind her season best 54-hole score.
"This is something I've worked hard for," Wavro said. "It was a goal of mine to finish in the top ten and after the first two rounds, I knew I had a chance to finish in the top five. So, I'm excited with how it went this week."
Freshman Ellen Hoeper finished the championships in a tie for 26th place. She carded an 85 in the final round for a three-day total of 235. Senior Kelli Strubinger finished one shot behind Hoeper, with a 54-hole total of 236, placing in a tie for 30th place.
Sophomore Madde Augustsson recorded an 82 on Wednesday, to finish in 51st spot with a three-round total of 244. One spot behind Augustsson was freshman Chelsea Schriewer, who had a final total of 246 to place 52nd in the tournament.
Texas A&M won the title with a three-round total of 899. Oklahoma State (910) took second and Colorado (922) was third.
The selections for the 2006 NCAA Regionals will be announced on May 1. The Regionals will be played May 11-13.
