LAWRENCE, Kan. - - Senior Stephanie Wavro turned in the best final round score of the 89 competitors in the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational with a one-under-par 71 on Tuesday at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan. Wavro finished in second place with a three-round total of 222 (76-75-71), just one shot behind the tournament medalist Anita Ojeda of Arkansas-Little Rock.
Mizzou's 306 final round score was tied with Notre Dame for the lowest final round on Tuesday. The Tigers finished in a tie for fourth place in the overall standings with a final 54-hole total of 936, just two shots out of third and five shots behind second place. Kansas won the tournament with a 917 final total.
Junior Madde Augustsson finished in a tie for 14th place with a 234 final score (77-78-79), one shot ahead of freshman Julia Potter who finished among a group tied for 19th spot.
Sophomore Ellen Hoeper, who was competing as an individual in the tournament and not part of the Missouri lineup, placed 25th with a 54-hole score of 236. Fellow sophomore Chelsea Schriewer finished in a tie for 48th place, while freshman Michelle Morgan tied for 54th spot.
Next up for the Tigers is the Price's Give'em Five in Las Cruces, N.M. on Oct. 16-17, where Mizzou will defend its 2005 tournament title.
