Missouri Drops Dual to Purdue, 18-15

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 16 Missouri Tigers (6-4) saw their three match winning streak come to an end on Sunday, as they fell to No. 21 Purdue (3-0-1) by a score of 18-15. Missouri held a 12-7 lead after six matches, but the Boilermakers picked up 11 points over the next three matches to take control.

Missouri jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on freshman Alan Waters' 20th win of the season. Waters knocked off No. 30 Camden Eppert by a 6-0 decision, keeping his perfect record intact. The freshman got out to a 3-0 lead after the first period, getting a point when his opponent was called for an illegal lock before scoring a takedown. Waters started down in the second and reversed Eppert, and rode him out in the third for the riding time point.
Purdue evened the dual up at 133 with Jake Fleckenstein edging out Nathan McCormick by a 4-2 decision. McCormick reversed Fleckenstein in the second for a 2-0 lead, but Fleckenstein later escaped and went to work in the third, getting a quick escape and a takedown with 19 seconds left for the win.
Mizzou put together two straight wins at 141 and 149 to extend their lead to 9-3. No. 13 Todd Schavrien defeated Akif Eren by a 6-4 decision in sudden victory overtime. Schavrien scored a takedown in the first and escaped after starting down in the second, but a late takedown by Eren with five seconds left in the period cut Schavrien's lead to 3-2. Schavrien was then hit with back-to-back stall warnings, giving Eren a point, who then escaped to take a 4-3 lead. Schavrien's riding time advantage evened the match to send it to overtime. From there, Schavrien came out the aggressor, taking down Eren just 17 seconds into overtime to pick up the win.
At 149, Kyle Bradley won his fifth match of the season, defeating Sam Patacsil by a 3-1 score. Bradley got a takedown in the first and escaped in the third, while limited Patacsil to only a second period escape.
Purdue got back in the match at 157, when No. 15 Colton Salazar majored Danny Gonsor, 12-4, cutting the Mizzou lead to 9-7.
At 165 pounds, No. 9 Zach Toal knocked off Kyle Mosier, 7-3, after getting two first period takedowns. He'd add an escape and another takedown in the second, securing the win. Toal now sits at 6-4 on the season, all coming in duals.
However, Purdue was able to take control of the match, getting three straight wins at 174-184-197, including two by bonus points. After a 2-1 decision by Luke Manuel over Dorian Henderson at 174, Purdue's A.J. Kissel, ranked 10th, scored a major at 184, as did No. 7 Logan Brown at 197, to take an 18-12 lead.
Heavyweight Dom Bradley won his 11th match of the year, winning by a 7-3 decision over Roger Vukobratovich, but Purdue would hold on to take the dual, 18-15.
