Tiger Spring Campaign Underway

Feb. 21, 2011

Columbia, Mo. -

Missouri Women's Golf opened its spring campaign at the challenging Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., and as typical for a first event of the spring season the Tigers had their share of ups-and-downs during the first 36-holes of play.

The 54-hole 2011 Central District Invitational is being hosted by Michigan State at the River Wilderness Country Club.

Facing a challenging course and a loaded field (each program is ranked among the Top 100 in collegiate golf), Missouri slipped to 15th place with rounds of 313-321—634 heading into Tuesday's finale.

Mizzou was led by junior Hannah Lovelock, who returned from off-season surgery to pace the Tigers with rounds of 74-77--151. Lovelock was Missouri's top performer on the afternoon, a definite highpoint for Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer's young squad.

"Lots of mental errors and nerves to start the spring season,” Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said.  “It was great to see Hannah (Lovelock) back in competition for us. She played pretty solid for her first competitive round of golf since June. Tomorrow is a new day and we can learn a lot from the decisions we made today as well as improving on our overall execution of shots."

Nicola Race is second among Tiger golfers, finishing with rounds of 76-82—158, just ahead of Marissa Cook (80-80-160).

Louisiana State leads the event with rounds of 293-290—583, while Texas A&M (290-294—584) and Iowa State (289-296—585) round out the top three.

Texas Christian's Brooke Beeler leads the event by three shots over LSU's Austin Ernst. Beeler carded an opening-round 65 to fuel her great play and is at 138 after two rounds, just ahead of Ernst's 72-69—141.

Action at the Central District Invitational concludes on Tuesday with 18 holes of play.
