Mizzou Women's Golf Competes At SunTrust

March 6, 2011

The Missouri Women's Golf team improved during its second round of play on Sunday, but it wasn't enough to work up the leaderboard at the 2011 SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational. Missouri shot rounds of 315-313--628, but remained in 16th place.

The 54-hole SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational is being played at the par-70/6,074-yard Mark Bostik Golf Course at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Missouri was led by Hannah Lovelock, who used a second round 74 to move into 37th place. Lovelock was one of two Tigers who posted improved second round scores, joining Marissa Cook. Cook opened with an 83, but rallied to shoot 78 to finish her day.

"Rough start for us out of the gate again," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "The wind made the tough holes tougher and this golf course certainly exposes your weaknesses and we struggled around the greens today. "It's so important on this course to play target golf and we missed some good opportunities today."

The host Gators lead the event by 17 shots over Florida State. Georgia State's Charlotte Lorentzen is the event's individual leader. She opened with a 4-over-par 74, but fired a 6-under-par 64 to gain a one-shot lead over Oho State's Vicky Vilanueva.

Missouri returns to action Monday morning for the final 18 holes of play.
