CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Mizzou gymnastics team recorded nine career highs had three season best event scores to propel the Tigers wins over Lindenwood and host SEMO with a season high team score 195.850 Friday night in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Seniors Laura Kappler and Becca Johnson and freshman Becca Schugel all claimed event titles during the meet.
Kappler won the first all-around title of her career with a 39.175. She and Schugel each tallied career highs of 9.900 on vault to tie for the event win. Schugel also notched a personal best 9.875 on floor for her second win of the night, while Johnson won the bars crown with a career best-tying 9.900.
Lindenwood placed second with a tally of 194.700, while SEMO took third in 193.600.
The Tigers posted season best scores on vault, bars and floor, with totals of 49.250, 49.150 and 49.125, respectively.
Mizzou's great night kicked off on floor, where the Tigers posted a 49.125. Three different gymnasts tallied career highs, led by Schugel's winning 9.875. Senior Briana Conkle took second on floor with a season best 9.850, while Kappler and Harris tied for third with scores of 9.825, both personal bests.
Missouri's strong floor carried over to vault, where the squad erupted for a 49.250 on vault, the highest team score on any event this year. Kappler and Schugel added more career bests, as the duo each scored a 9.9 to share top honors on the apparatus. Sophomore Angie Kern and freshman Shauna Miller tied for third with scores of 9.850, while Harris added a 9.750.
The team closed the meet with a 49.150 on bars. Johnson won her first event title of the year with a career best-tying 9.900, while junior Miranda Eubank tied for second with a season high 9.850. Kappler, competing bars for the first time in 2015, set her third career best of the night with a 9.800. Miller also scored a 9.800 for the Tigers, while redshirt senior Katelyn Trevino had a 9.775.
Mizzou opened the meet on beam, posting a team total of 48.325. Miller led the way for the squad with a 9.775, while Kappler and Schugel added 9.650s.
Mizzou returns home next weekend with a pair of meets at the Hearnes Center. The Tigers first host Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. meet against Lindenwood on Sunday, Feb. 8.
