COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou gymnastics team opened the 2015 season with a pair of wins over Kent State and Towson Friday night at the Hearnes Center. Missouri posted a score of 193.900 to take the tri-meet, while Towson took second with 193.325 points and Kent State was third with 192.400.
Freshman Shauna Miller claimed the all-around title with a score of 39.325 points after winning vault, bars and beam.
The Tigers opened the meet with a strong rotation of 48.875 on vault. Miller got scores of 10.0 and 9.9 to earn a 9.950 on the event, a score that ties for the third-best vault tally in program history. Senior Laura Kappler also hit a strong vault with 9.825 and freshman Kennedi Harris had a 9.750.
Missouri posted another 48.875 on bars in the second rotation with consistent routines across the board. Miller picked up the event with with a 9.850, followed closely behind by junior Miranda Eubank's 9.800. Seniors Briana Conkle and Becca Johnson both tallied 9.750s on the event.
Miller's third individual event victory of the meet came on beam, where she paced the Tigers with a score of 9.825. Kappler continued her solid evening on the event, earning a 9.800.
The Tigers closed the meet with a 48.550 on floor for the 193.900 team total. Four different gymnasts notched scores of 9.700 or higher, led by Kappler's 9.775. Conkle and Harris each had 9.725, while Miller concluded her night with a 9.700.
Missouri returns to action on Friday, Jan. 13 with a 7 p.m. ET meet at No. 7 Georgia in a meet that will be broadcast live on SEC Network +.
