Yuen Ties for Low Round Sunday with 67 and Finishes Fifth Individually
The Mizzou Women's Golf Team wrapped up its 2018 fall season with a strong showing at the Battle at the Beach, held Nov. 2-4 at Club Campestre in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. The Tigers came into Sunday's final round in seventh place as a team, and they maintained that position in the end, tying for seventh with a three-round total of 879 (302-285-292), and they defeated a pair of top-25 teams along the way.
Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer's team ended the tournament 14 shots better than 9th-ranked Virginia (9th - 893) and a full 30 shots better than 21st-ranked Baylor (12th - 909), while they also defeated 42nd-ranked Houston (10th - 900) by 21 strokes.
Junior standout Jessica Yuen tied for low round on the day with a stellar four-under par 67 Sunday. She carded her first collegiate hole-in-one on the par three ninth hole on Sunday, which played at approximately 124 yards on Sunday. That ace, combined with five birdies, helped propel Yuen up the leaderboard into a tie for fifth place with a 54-hole total of 213 (76-70-67) to mark her third-straight top-five finish of the season. The 67 also marked Yuen's low round of the fall.
Yuen said that she felt good about the tee shot on the ninth hole from the start, but was never expecting a hole-in-one.
"I went with a pitching wedge, and the wind was right to left with the pin tucked back left," she said. "It wasn't a real accessible pin because there wasn't a lot of room to miss it left, so I just aimed about a flagstick right to let the wind take it. I knew when I hit it that it was going to be close, but of course I never thought it was going to go in. It hopped once and then rolled to the hole and disappeared," she said.
Senior Emma Allen notched a top-25 finish as she came in tied for 24th overall with a three-round 220 total (73-70-77). Allen shot a six-over 77 on Sunday. Senior Amanda Kim turned in her third-straight top-40 finish with a T-36 after a 54-hole 222 (73-74-75). Junior Cherise Otter was next for the Tigers, tying for 53rd overall with a 228 total for the tournament (81-71-76), while senior Cayce Hendrickson had the second-lowest round on Sunday for the Tigers, with a three-over par 74. Hendrickson tied for 63rd overall with her 54-hole total of 230 (80-76-74).
