Kitts' Overtime Goal Returns Mizzou Soccer to Win Column

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Mizzou Soccer (5-2) pulled out an exhilarating 2-1 overtime victory against Northern Colorado, Sunday afternoon at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. Grace Kitts capitalized on a deflection to score a victory for the Tigers' in the final game of their sixth match homestead. Mizzou went 4-2 in that span.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Mizzou Soccer (5-2) pulled out an exhilarating 2-1 overtime victory against Northern Colorado, Sunday afternoon at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. Grace Kitts capitalized on a deflection to score a victory for the Tigers' in the final game of their sixth match homestead. Mizzou went 4-2 in that span.

In the first half, the Tigers went back and forth with the Bears until the 27th minute when junior forward Macy Trujillo dribbled with power and set up sophomore forward Skye Kingsley who found the bottom left corner of the net giving the Tigers the advantage. The Bears responded with a goal on a free kick in the 40th minute to tie the match going into halftime.

The Tigers defense locked down in the second half and narrowly missed several offensive opportunities, sending the game into overtime 1-1 before Kitts victorious goal in the 96th minute.

TURNING POINT

Tensions were high in overtime after a scoreless second half when redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Peyton Bauman's terrific save allowed the Tigers their next opportunity to end the game. Sarah Luebbert drove towards the goal, crossing to Lindsey Whitmore, whose shot attempt was blocked by a defender. The deflected ball rolled in front of redshirt junior Grace Kitts who fired into the right corner opposite of the goalie.

TOP PERFORMERS

  • Grace Kitts scored her first goal since Oct. 29, 2017 – against Alabama in the SEC Tournament – after missing all of 2018 with an injury.
  • Skye Kingsley scored her first goal of the season on a season-high two shots Sunday afternoon.
  • Freshman Jadyn Easley tallied the first points of her career, dishing out the assist on Kingsley's goal.
  • Peyton Bauman grabbed four saves on the day, posting a save percentage of .800 – her second-highest average of the season.

NOTES

  • Kitts goal is Mizzou's 16th of the season, matching last season's total.
  • The victory over the Bears gives Mizzou six on the season – also matching last season's total.
