Soccer Falls at No. 4 Mississippi State

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer fell 5-0 to No. 4 Mississippi State on Sunday evening at MSU Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers' defense stifled the Bulldogs' attack early in the contest. Missouri was compact in the middle of the field forcing Mississippi State to approach the sidelines.
In the 18th minute, the Bulldogs blasted a pair of consecutive shots from just outside the box that were deflected wide by the Tigers' backline.
In the 20th minute, Mississippi State opened the scoring as an elevated shot found the top left corner of the net.
Less than a minute later, the Bulldogs added to the lead sending a long past behind the Tigers' defense that was corralled by an attacking forward and placed into the net.
Mississippi State's attack continued to pressure the Tigers' defense as the first half neared a close, but sophomore goalkeeper Kate Phillips and the Tigers' backline kept them out of the net.
Three minutes into the second half the Bulldogs were able to add to their lead.
In the 59th minute, a Mississippi State header connected with the crossbar and fell into the center of the box. Amid a scramble near the goal line, Phillips made a diving save to her right to end the scoring opportunity.
The Bulldogs added two additional goals down the stretch to lead to the final tally.
