
Soccer Falls at Tennessee

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer fell to Tennessee, 1-0, Friday night at Regal Stadium.
A goal in the 21st minute was the difference in the contest.
Mizzou pushed up and pressured the Tennessee backline early in the match but was unable to come up with any opportunities in the first few moments of the match.
In the sixth minute, the Tennessee attack serviced the ball across the box, but it was pushed wide by freshman Landis Canada to avoid a charging Lady Vol.
Nearly four minutes later, freshman Emily Derucki gained possession just outside the box and blasted a pair of shots with her right and left foot, respectively. Both attempts were turned away by a Tennessee defender.
In the 21st minute, the Lady Vols earned a corner. Freshman Callaway Combs attempted to clear the corner with a header, but a Volunteer knocked the clearance down and redirected it toward the net. A scrum ensued near the goal line and the ball was eventually pushed into the back of the net.
Nearly 10 minutes later, senior Leah Selm dribbled up the center of the field shifted to her right, found a clear look at goal, and fired a low shot at the Tennessee keeper that was swallowed up.
With the denied attempt, the Lady Vols took the one-goal lead into the half.
In the 52nd minute, Derucki sprinted up the left side and struck a shot past the outstretched foot of the Tennessee defender just before she reached the corner of the box. The shot was corralled by the Lady Vols keeper.
Missouri largely held possession in the offensive end during the first portion of the second half. Despite, a methodical approach to the attack, Tennessee was able to protect the goal.
The Lady Vols and Tigers were even with seven shots apiece, however, Mizzou led in shots on goal three to one.
