COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer fell 7-0 to No. 8 Duke Thursday night at Koskinen Stadium.
The Blue Devils (5-1-0) controlled possession early in the contest as the Tigers (2-4-1) offense looked for attacking opportunities.
In the seventh minute, Missouri freshman midfielder Monica Brauner sent a corner kick into the center of the box that found the head of junior forward Kylee Simmons who elevated above the Blue Devils' defenders. The shot narrowly missed the net as it struck the crossbar and went high.
With the Tigers trailing 1-0 in the heart of the first half, Duke continued to put pressure on the Tigers' backline, redshirt junior goalkeeper Bella Hollenbach staunchly defended the net and extended to make a diving save that prevented a scoring opportunity in the 21st minute.
Despite the diving stop, the Blue Devils continued to press the Tigers' defense and earned four additional goals before the break.
Duke continued to control the game in the second half and added three additional goals.
