Track & Field completes day one of the two-day spectacle.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri track and field's Alicia Burnett (St. Louis, Mo.) sprinted to a 23.35 finish in the 200-meter dash, shattering the program record as the first day of the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational concluded on Friday.
Burnett became the third Mizzou sprinter to run the 200m in sub-24 seconds, surpassing LaQuisha Jackson's 23.57s set in 2016 to take the record. Burnett also holds the program record in the 60-meter dash after setting a time of 7.29 seconds earlier this season and currently sits sixth in the 400m (55.00). Both her 60m and 200m marks represent Hearnes Center Fieldhouse facility records.
The men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon dominated Friday's schedule. Freshman Kannon Harlow (Park Hills, Mo.) competed in the heptathlon for the men's team, placing 14th through four events. Harlow posted a pair of personal records - first, a 7.27s effort in the 60m before recording a toss of 11.49m shot put throw. Teammate Brooke Sawatzky (Naperville, Ill.) finished 10th in the pentathlon (3131), as a fifth place finish in the 60m hurdles (9.07s) and a personal-best 9.71m shot put highlighted her multi-event performance.
The Tigers combined for five personal records in the weight throw and pole vault. In the weight throw, Garik Pozecki (Baltimore, Md.) (19.71m), Clayton Kamp (Arlington Heights, Ill.) (18.78), Delilah Pippen (Kansas City, Mo.) (16.37m) each tallied new collegiate bests. In the pole vault, Anna Vedral (Omaha, Neb.) (3.77m) and Anna Ferguson (Columbia, Mo.) (3.47m) jumped to new heights in the event.
