Junior guard Grace Slaughter added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma contributed 14 points on a perfect six-of-six shooting from the floor. The senior completed her statline with four boards, two assist and two steals.
The contest began with an exchange of buckets between the teams. Reisma was dominant offensively in the paint, recording the first four points for the Tigers.
Trailing by two halfway through the quarter, Slaughter grabbed a defensive board and connected behind the 3-point line to tie the contest before a put-back layup from Dowell gave Mizzou its first lead.
Kansas regained its advantage in the closing minutes of the first as Mizzou trailed 21-17 headed into the second period.
Mizzou found an offensive flow with multiple Tigers knocking down 3-pointers throughout the frame, including senior guard Saniah Tyler, who saw her first minutes in black and gold after recovering from an early-season injury.
Despite a 50% conversion mark behind the 3-point line, Kansas was also able to connect offensively and extend its lead throughout the frame as Missouri trailed 49-39 at halftime.
Mizzou pushed the pace after the break and outscored its rival 11-2 in the early minutes of the third frame. Dowell put up a quick five points and Reisma added an additional six in the period.
A bucket behind the charity stripe from Slaughter created a 56-56 tie before Tyler knocked down her second triple of the night to give Mizzou the advantage.
The Tigers closed the scoring gap and trailed 66-62 as they approached the final ten minutes of play.
Reisma immediately opened the fourth frame with two points in the paint. Slaughter found similar success and dished a quick two in the following possession to tie the game again.
In the final minute of action, Dowell attacked and finished at the rim to close in on the Jayhawks' lead. She added a point behind the free-throw line and brought the Tigers within three possessions.
Despite outscoring Kansas in the second half, Mizzou was unable to secure the win.
