Junior Veikka Viskari posted the low round of the three days of play at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, finishing in the top 10 to open the 2025-26 season and leading the Mizzou men's golf program to a sixth-place team finish in Grand Haven, Michigan.
Viskari posted his collegiate-best round with a five-under 66 on Wednesday, vaulting from 36th place after two days of play to a seventh-place individual finish. His 66 not only topped his previous career best of 67 – accomplished three previous times – but was also the lowest round of any of the 75 golfers over the three days en route to his eighth career top-10 finish.
The junior carded six birdies against just one bogey over the final 18 holes as he finished with a three-day score of +1 on the par-71 course (76-72-66).
"I'm very proud of how the guys managed themselves this week on a real championship setup," Viskari said. "Everyone played with a lot of heart and we certainly showed our competitiveness in the last two days. There's still some areas to clean up but overall, it was a solid start to a new season."
Overall, Mizzou placed sixth in the 15-team field with a team score of +16. The Tigers posted a tally of +2 over the final two rounds after opening the season at +14 the first 18 holes for their sixth-place finish that included placing ahead of Florida State – a team that ranked No. 9 in the preseason coaches poll.
"It was a good event for us up here," said Mizzou head coach Glen Millican. "Our guys stayed committed to their game plans and had really good rounds today and yesterday. American Dunes requires a lot of discipline and concentration and they did a good job of managing a great course setup.
"Trent (Mierl) and Veikka posting two of the lowest rounds of the tournament was impressive and sparked a strong comeback after day one."
Sophomore Trent Mierl just missed joining Viskari in the top 10, placing 11th overall with a score of +2. Mierl posted the second-best round of the tournament with a 67, sandwiched around a pair of 74s in the first and third round for his fourth career top-15 finish.
Senior Virgilio Paz posted the team's second-best finish of the day with a 72 to move up eight spots in the standings and place 59th overall (80-76-72). Freshman Reese Roberts also finished 28th overall in his collegiate debut at +7 (73-73-74), while junior Bradley Mulder placed 42nd in his first tournament as a Tiger at +11 (75-72-77).
The Tigers aim to build off their early-season success when they return to action next Sunday, competing at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational.
