Track and Field’s Barrios Claims Javelin Title, Ciccolini Joins in Punching Ticket to NCAA Championship Final

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Missouri track and field's Valentina Barrios secured the victory for javelin throw during the second day of the NCAA West Regional Championships Thursday at John McDonnell Field, with Skylar Ciccolini additionally advancing to the final round in Eugene, Ore.

RECAP

Barrios, the defending national champion, advanced to the NCAA Championship Final with a throw of 57.35m (188-2), coming off of her victory at the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships. The senior qualifies for the final event for the second consecutive year.

Joining her is Ciccolini, notching 11th with a mark of 50.51m (165-8), signifying the fourth time she has qualified for finals.

"There were tough conditions at the beginning of the competition and at the end," Head Coach Brett Halter said. "Valentina and Skylar fought hard and demonstrated terrific competitive integrity. Both are in great form as we head to the finals in two weeks."
