TOP TIGERS
Barrios collects her first conference title with a throw of 58.31m (191-3), a season best and the No. 3 national result. The defending national champion becomes the first javelin athlete to take home an SEC title and the second in program history to earn a conference title since Cindy Kiser threw a 41.86m (137-1) at the 1977 Big 8 Outdoor Conference Championships.
"Valentina battled hard today, as did our entire group," Head Coach Brett Halter said. "She demonstrated elite competitive integrity working on her technique throughout the competition to be sure she came away with the win."
RECAP
Senior Sam Innes put up a strong performance in the men's hammer throw, claiming silver with a personal best of 71.65m (235-1), improving his previous No. 2 all-time mark for Missouri and only 10 inches short of the school record.
"Terrific performance by Sam today," Halter said. "He trusted his training and was able to put pressure on the field early in the competition."
Garik Pozecki also represented the Tigers in the men's weight throw, tallying a personal best and the program's No. 6 all-time result with a 63.99m (209-11) to place 11th.
On the women's side of the weight throw contest, Petra Gombas secured eighth with a personal best of 61.43m (201-6), ranking seventh on the Missouri charts.
Wichita transfer Brianna Utecht completed four events of the heptathlon, standing in ninth overall with 3,291 points. Her highest event finish was fifth in shot put with a 12.70m (41-8).
On the track, sophomore Charlotte Cullen led the Tigers in the women's 800m, notching a personal best and 16th place with a 2:07.45.
