
Mizzou Men and Women's Track Finish Third at Illinois

The University of Missouri men's and women's track teams both finished third at the Carle/Health Alliance Classic in Champaign, Illinois today. Indiana won both the men's and women's competition, Illinois finished second, and Eastern Illinois finished fourth.
Tiger thrower Christian Cantwell bested his farthest shot put of the year when he launched a throw of 66 feet, 2.25 inches. Cantwell led a first through third sweep in the shot put for the Tigers as Russ Bell finished second and freshman Bill Hobson finished third. Bell won the weight throw and Cantwell took second. High jumper Jesse Sims won his event with a leap of 6 feet, 10.75 inches and teammate Jason Edmonds finished second. Other Tigers that had outstanding meets include Marquis Davis who finished second in the 60 meters, Jason Jones had a second place finish in the 400 meters and Neville Miller took second in the 800 meters.
On the women's side distance runners Ashley Patten and Amanda Bales won events today. Bales won the 800 meter run in 2:12.29 and Patten won the 600 meters. High jumper Christi Myers won the event with a jump of 5 feet, 7 inches, which tied her season- best jump. Pole vaulter Jennifer Bennett finished second in her event with a jump of 12 feet, 5 inches. Tiger throwers Janae Strickland and Ann Snider had a good day with Strickland finishing second in the shot put and Ann Snider finishing second in the weight throw.
The Tiger track teams will be in action next weekend when they head to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Adidas Classic.
