Tigers Fall to No. 69 Texas Tech, 6-1

The University of Missouri women's tennis team lost to the 69th-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in Texas. The Tigers fall to 6-9 overall and 1-6 in the Big 12 with four conference matches remaining, including Sunday's contest against No. 16 Baylor in Waco.
The match was the Tigers' fifth road contest in a row, and it is the third straight weekend they are away from Columbia. The team is 1-4 on this stretch after Saturday's loss against a Texas Tech team that just played its third home match of a four-match home stand.
"We're a tired team right now, and Texas Tech was fresh. After tomorrow, we'll go back home, take a couple of days off and start training for Kansas, Tiger Coach Blake Starkey said.
The Kansas match is set for next Saturday (April 7) at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia.
As for Saturday's match, Texas Tech (8-7/1-4 Big 12) earned their first conference win of the spring by sweeping the doubles point and winning five of the six singles matches.
The Lady Raiders could not win all of the singles matches, as Tiger sophomore Raquel Wagner earned Mizzou's only point of the day, by defeating Brenna Jackson, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6 singles. The win was her 16th of the year, and seventh of the spring.
The Lady Raiders set the tone in doubles action, defeating the Tigers in each of the three matches. At No. 1, Wagner and Katelyn McKenzie moved back into the top spot for Mizzou, and fell 8-3 to Samantha van der Drift and Janet Durham. Erika Josbena and Amanda Pratzel lost in the No. 2 spot to Jackson and Lakann Wagley, 8-1, and Dunham and Svetlic lost at No. 3.
In singles play, Pratzel lost to van der Drift, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1, Svetlic lost to Wagley, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. At No. 3, Josbena fell to Durham, 6-4, 6-2. Freshmen Dunham and McKenzie lost in straight-sets at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
