HOUSTON - After having already qualified for next week's NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships with her fourth-place finish in 3-meter diving at the Zone D Championships on Saturday, Mizzou junior Kendra Melnychuk continued to shine in Sunday's platform competition. The 2008 conference platform champ took second on the tower to gain some added momentum heading into Nationals, where she will compete in all three diving events.
"Kendra was right on today," Tiger Diving Coach Jamie Sweeney said. "She nailed some big dives in both rounds to finish second. Hopefully we'll see much of the same from her this coming week at Nationals."
With her 256.80 points, Melnychuk stood in fourth heading into the final round of action on the tower. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native then put together the second-highest total of the round (270.90) to take second overall with a score of 527.70.
Melnychuk will take the next several days to prepare for the NCAA Championships, slated to begin Thursday in Columbus, Ohio. Stay tuned to mutigers.com for all the latest updates and results.
