COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Cross Country will kick off postseason competition at the SEC Championships on Friday, hosted by Arkansas at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Ark. The women's 6,000m race will begin the day's events at 10 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 8,000m race, scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
Friday's conference meet will mark the fifth time the Tigers have competed in the SEC Championships after joining the league prior to the 2012 season. In that debut 2012 season, the Mizzou men posted their best SEC team finish, finishing tied for third, while the Mizzou women posted their best team finish in 2014, finishing fourth.
Mizzou is looking to build off an impressive showing at the Pre-National Invitational two weeks ago, where the Tiger women finished 12th and the men finished 13th. Mizzou improved dramatically from the previous season where the men finished 31st and the women finished 33rd at the 2015 Pre-National Invitational.
Junior Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa) paced the Tigers at the Pre-National meet in Terre Haute, Ind., finishing fourth overall with a 6K personal-record time of 20:14.00. The top-five finish was the third of the season for the Tiger junior, who crossed the finish line first overall at the Commodore Classic and the Chile Pepper Festival. Schweizer was named SEC Runner of the Week after impressive performances at each of those events, marking the first time in program history a runner has won the conference runner of the week accolade three times in a season. Redshirt junior Kaitlyn Fischer (Pevely, Mo.), a two-time All-SEC performer, will run in her third SEC event after finishing sixth overall in 2013 and 2014. Senior Nicole Mello (Columbia, Mo.) and Teylar Adelsberger (O'Fallon, Mo.), who finished second and third, respectively, for the Tigers at the 2015 SEC Championships, will race at Agri Park on Friday.
On the men's side, senior Drew White (Crystal City, Mo.) will lead the way for the Tigers. White has paced Mizzou in each of the three events he has competed in this season, marking top-10 finishes at the Hawkeye Invitational and Chile Pepper Festival. Senior Ollie Lockley (Colby, Isle of Man), who holds three of Mizzou's top-10 8K times this season, looks to improve his conference finish from a year ago where he finished 80th overall. The Tigers top-three finishers at last year's conference meet, redshirt senior Jordan Cook (Columbia, Mo.), redshirt junior Marc Dubrick (DeKalb, Ill.) and redshirt junior Sheldon Keence (St. Charles, Mo.), all return for this year's meet.
