First-year Tiger placed third among individual competitors, T-27th overall
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Mizzou Women's Golf freshman Jessica Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) completed her run at the 2017 NCAA Albuquerque Regional on Wednesday (May 10), finishing 8-over (224: 74-73-77) across the three-day stretch.
Yuen's performance placed third amongst the Regional's six individual competitors and tied for 27th overall. The Bolingbrook, Ill., native fell one spot short in qualifying for next week's NCAA Championships.
"This week was a great opportunity for Jess (Yuen)," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "She really had a chance after her first two rounds to qualify for NCAA Championships, but today she had too many missed shots that cost her."
"She played with the two players who qualified and it was a great experience to see where she stands with those types of competitors. She was right there with them. She can take away a lot of positives from this NCAA Regional and build on this for the future."
This year, Yuen participated in a team-high 10 tournaments for the Tigers and tallied a team-low average score of 72.8. The Bolingbrook, Ill., native finished even par or better four times, highlighted by a 5-under finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout (Oct. 23-25, 2016). Yuen finished top 25 individually in seven of 10 tournaments, including a pair of top 10 placements.
The Southeastern Conference recognized Yuen for her outstanding first-year campaign last week (May 4) with a selection to its 2017 Women's Golf All-Freshman Team. Her 72.8 stroke average this year established a new all-time Mizzou Women's Golf program-low for a freshman.
