Raley earns tournament co-champion honors
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Buoyed by a third straight-set win from senior Clare Raley (Atlanta, Ga.), the Mizzou Tennis team racked up five more wins on the final day of the Mizzou Invite, held Saturday at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
Raley's domainant 6-0, 6-1 win over Kansas State's Meghan King completed a 3-0 singles weekend, earning her tournament singles co-champion honors. Over her three tournament matches, Raley gave up just seven games to her opposition; she was the only player in the field with three straight-set wins.

"Clare just stayed hungry. The whole weekend, you could just see it in her eyes," said head coach Colt Gaston. "She's been wanting to get some wins and some confidence. I wasn't shocked that Clare found it and put it together, but for her to step up like that shows that she's locking it in right now."
Freshman Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) picked up her second singles win of the weekend with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Memphis' Josephine Cao. It was also her second win of the day over the blue Tiger, as she paired with sophomore Serena Nash (Bradford, England) for a 7-5 win over Cao and doubles teammate Lina Hohnold.
In all, the Tigers won three of four doubles matches on the morning; the 32nd-ranked duo of senior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) and freshman Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal) registered a 6-3 win over Hanna Sohn and Laura Bente of Memphis, and Raley and sophomore Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) beat Memphis' Claire Sullivan and Katherine Cao, 6-3.
WHAT HE SAID
"The team did a good job of bouncing back from a slow start Thursday morning. I was proud of the way they responded the rest of the tournament," said Gaston. "It was great for Amina and Marta to get some experience together this weekend. The girls learned a lot; I really respect that they fought through adversity and never gave up. I saw a lot of positives."
