COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Sharli Brady (Burlington, Ky.) and the 200 free relay team both posted 12th-place finishes for All-America honorable mention honors during day two action for the Mizzou women's swimming and diving team at the 2018 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Tigers sit in 23rd place with 15 points with two days of competition remaining.
KEY SWIMS
Brady claimed All-America honorable mention honors with her 12th-place performance in the 200 IM. She clocked a 1:55.62 in finals after shattering her own school record with a 1:54.89 in morning prelims, more than half a second better than her old mark. Brady's All-America honor was the sixth individual accolade of her Missouri career but first in the 200 IM, as her previous best finish in the event was 23rd last season.
The Tigers also earned points in the 200 free relay. The quartet of freshman Sarah Thompson (Collierville, Tenn.), juniors Annie Ochitwa (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Maddie Gehrke (Wilton, Iowa) and senior Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio) finished 12th overall after a fourth-place finish in the consolation final. The team swam a finals time of 1:28.47 to claim All-America honorable mention honors in the event.
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Head Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh
"Today we outscored our seeds. We weren't supposed to score any points today and we scored 15, which is great. I thought we swam really tough today everywhere except the medley relay in the morning. Tonight we raced really well. We moved up in the 200 free relay from lane one and Sharli raced really well and just got touched out for second (in the 200 IM). That's the first time she's ever scored in the 200 IM. We'll try to crank it up tomorrow morning."
