Florida took second (1,071), Georgia third (999), Alabama fourth (973), Tennessee fifth (934), Texas A&M sixth (839) and Mizzou seventh (614.5). Overall in the women's meet, Mizzou won one individual SEC title (Savana Trueb on platform), set two school records and had four top two finishes and 11 top 8 placements. Additionally, the Mizzou men's divers compiled four top six finishes, including a pair of top three placements.
In addition to sophomore Savana Trueb's platform crown, Mizzou's fifth diving SEC diving title, the Tigers had runner-up performances from senior Sarah Thompson (Collierville, Tenn.) in the 100 back and the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
SATURDAY PERFORMANCES
Endo followed up his fourth-place 3-meter performance on Friday with a third-place finish on platform on Saturday. The freshman was consistent throughout the final and ended his list with a 72.0 , his highest scoring dive of the session, to claim the bronze and a podium finish. The SEC Championships marked the second meet of his collegiate career, as he joined the Tiger program in January.
Sophomore Carlo Lopez (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) also competed in the platform final, taking sixth overall with a finals tally of 338.7. Lopez also placed third on 1-meter during Thursday action.
In Athens, the Tigers notched a pair of fifth-place finishes in the swimming pool. Thompson swam a 47.94 to touch fifth in the 100 free final, and sophomore Meredith Rees (Colorado Springs, Colo.) went a career-best 1:53.35 in the 200 back final to nab fifth-place, her second fifth-place finish of the meet.
In the final event of the day, Mizzou's 400 free relay of Thompson, sophomore Amy Feddersen (Ames, Iowa), junior Megan Keil (Derby, Kan.) and freshman Sierra Smith (Plymouth, Minn.) took fifth in 3:14.21, the third-best time in program history. Thompson led off the relay with a 47.78 100 free split, a career-best.
QUOTABLES
Mizzou head coach Andrew Grevers
"It was a truly incredible day for the Tigers in Athens for swimming and diving back in Columbia. Takuto getting third and Carlo also making finals, it was really awesome for men's diving. On the women's side, we had an incredible morning and got our team right where we needed to be to move up tonight, which is exactly what we did. We passed Arkansas in the team standings through great efforts, both with individual swims and in the relay. Special shoutout to Amanda Smith, who really showed off her senior swim in the 200 back. All in all, it was an incredible session and ending to our meet."
Mizzou diving coach Kyle Bogner
"A lot of times the name of the game on platform is just landing on your head and going as straight up and down as you can, and I think Takuto (Endo) and Carlo (Lopez) did that today. They kept their foot on the gas through finals and it was great.
"The meet was super successful. For the most part everyone showed up and was able to contribute to the team, so that was great. We gained momentum, which is awesome. Carlo was consistent throughout the meet, he kept plugging away. Obviously it was great for Takuto to be able to compete, he got better as the meet went on and hopefully this will boost his confidence. Savana got better as the days went on as well."
