LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Mizzou sophomore Carlo Lopez (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) punched his ticket to the 2021 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday during day one action at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships at Lancaster Aquatic Center in Lexington, Ky. Lopez finished ninth on 3-meter to earn his NCAA bid, the second of his career.
KEY PERFORMANCES
Lopez compiled a two-round tally of 669.4 points for his ninth-place finish. The sophomore sat 12th halfway through the final but responded with a 61.6 on his fourth dive and concluded with 64.5 points on his final dive to take ninth and nab the final NCAA qualifying spot. As a freshman in 2020, Lopez earned NCAA bids on both 3-meter and platform but did not get to compete at the canceled Championships.
In the women's 1-meter competition, sophomore Savana Trueb (Colorado Springs, Colo.) narrowly missed an NCAA berth after placing 11th, while the top 10 finishers earned invites. Trueb totaled 558.8 points overall, with 286.2 in the final and 272.6 in prelims. If Trueb qualifies for NCAAs on either 3-meter or platform, she will also be eligible to compete 1-meter at the Championships because she finished in the top 12 on 1-meter.
