Mizzou fought back after dropping doubles point, but couldn’t complete comeback

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis (15-10, 1-7 SEC) lost a four-hour thriller to Alabama (10-8, 1-7 SEC), 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. After dropping the doubles point, Mizzou won three singles matches to even the match at 3-3, but couldn't quite sneak out that last victory.

DOUBLES

In doubles play, the Crimson Tide took the point after winning on courts 2 and 3. Mizzou's team of senior Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portgual) and senior Serena Nash (Bradford, England) led, 5-2, on court 1 when play was stopped.

SINGLES

In singles play, Mizzou won three matches, claiming victories on court 2, 5 and 6. After recently earned a singles ranking of No. 122, junior Bronte Murgett (Holmfirth, Great Britain) made quick work in the No. 2 spot, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Moka Ito. Sophomore Elys Ventura (Auckland, New Zealand) and Oliveira also won in straight sets on court 5 and 6, respectively. Ventura claimed victory over Anne Marie Hiser, 7-6, 6-3, while Oliveira defeated Sydney Riley, 6-1, 6-3

Next, Mizzou will host No. 17 Auburn on Sunday, March 28 at 11:00 a.m. CT at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. Mizzou will honor its seniors – Gabrielle Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.), Nash and Kat Rosenberger (St. Louis, Mo.) – prior to the match.
