Senior Mark Mitchell of the Mizzou men's basketball team was honored among the best in the Southeastern Conference on Monday, earning a spot on the Preseason All-SEC Second Team.
Additionally, the Tigers were slated seventh in the 16-team preseason poll by the league's media – the team's highest selection in eight years.
An All-SEC selection as a junior from both the coaches and the media, Mitchell led Mizzou with 13.9 points during the 2024-25 campaign. In fact, his 13.9 points per game are the most by a returning Tiger since Marcus Denmon in 2011-12.
Mitchell also ranked second on the team with 4.7 rebounds, third with 64 assists, fifth with 32 steals and first with 25 blocks. Overall, he was one of just 14 players in the nation to total 450 points, 150 boards, 60 assists, 30 steals and 25 blocks last season.
Defending national champion Florida was slated to win the league title and was followed by Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Mizzou and Ole Miss in the standings. It marks the Tigers' highest placement since being picked fifth in the 2017-18 predictions.
Mizzou aims to add another successful campaign under fourth-year Whitten Family Men's Basketball Head Coach Dennis Gates in 2025-26. Last season, the Tigers defeated three top-five schools in the same year for the first time since 1988-89 and finished sixth in the SEC's historic campaign that sent 14 schools to the NCAA Tournament.
