Mizzou wrestling returns home to Columbia to take on No. 9 Illinois at Hearnes Center Monday, Nov. 24. Fans can stream the Braggin' Rights bout starting at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
- Mizzou finished eighth at the National Duals Invitational in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a 2-3 record.
- Starting with a tough loss to No. 3 Iowa, 34-3, the Tigers rebounded with a 34-6 win over No. 22 Little Rock and finished the first day topping No. 11 Michigan, 26-10.
- Day two saw the Tigers split matches 5-5 against No. 9 Minnesota in a close match, but lose by one point, 15-14, before closing out the invitational against No. 15 Illinois, dropping 26-18 to place eighth.
- In losses, Missouri dropped six one-takedown matches against No. 3 Iowa and split bouts 5-5 with Minnesota, losing by one point 15-14.
DOWN GOES NO. 1
- With a 4-1 weekend, Aeoden Sinclair climbed the ranks after a successful trip to the National Duals Invitational.
- Despite dropping a nail-biting opening round match to No. 3 Angelo Ferrari of Iowa in a tiebreaker, Sinclair turned the tide to rattle off four straight wins for the Tigers.
- The redshirt freshman bested No. 29 Brock DelSignore of Little Rock (MD 15-6), No. 14 Brock Mantanona of Michigan (TF 5:22) and No. 26 Chris Moore (Illinois).
- More importantly, Sinclair took out No. 1 Max McEnelly of Minnesota with a 6-3 decision. The Wisconsin native earned the only takedown of the match and accumulated 1:58 of riding time to seal the win.
MACK ATTACK
- Redshirt freshman Mack Mauger emerged at the National Duals Invitational onto the national stage.
- Mauger battled through a tough weekend of competition and came out with two falls against Tyson Roach of Little Rock (2:46) and No. 20 Diego Sotelo of Michigan (1:35).
CLIMB THE RANKS
- The Tigers were one of the biggest movers, climbing fice spots to No. 11 in the NWCA Coaches Poll.
- Redshirt freshman Aeoden Sinclair was the biggest climber of the week, moving from eighth to second after defeating the No. 1-ranked wrestler at 185 pounds.
- Classmate Mack Mauger (125) moved up three spots to No. 25.
THE CATALYSTS
- Leading the Tigers with 10 wins apiece are Aeoden Sinclair and Evan Bates, with Sinclair also accumulating the fewest losses with one.
- Bates also tops the team with eight bonus-point wins to start the season, followed by Sinclair with seven.
- Sinclair is out in front with four falls, while Mack Mauger is close behind with three pins.
MENDOZA MODE
- True freshman Seth Mendoza (157) was challenged with five ranked opponents in his first collegiate wrestling event at National Duals and came away with two ranked wins.
- Mendoza first won against No. 31 Javion Jones of Little Rock, followed by No. 30 Cam Catrabone of Michigan.
ALL-TIME VS. ILLINOIS
- Mizzou is 16-21 all-time against Illinois and 6-7 in the Brian Smith era.
- The Black and Gold last won against Illinois on Dec. 21, 2023, inside the Stifel Theatre in St. Louis, 29-6.
- Moreover, the Tigers are 4-2 in the last six meetings with the Illini.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE ILLINI
- The Tigers are coming off the National Duals Invitational, where their final match for seventh place was against No. 15 Illinois, which they lost 26-18.
- Mizzou saw decision wins from Zeke Seltzer (141) and Aeoden Sinclair (184).
- Additionally, Evan Bates won via injury default and heavyweight Jarrett Stoner won by forfeit.
MOST WINS (Active, 50+)
- Max Mayfield (71), Josh Edmond (66) and Evan Bates (62).
ON THE HORIZON
- The Tigers travel down I-70 to St. Charles, Missouri, for Journeymen Wrestling's Hustle in the Heartland match Friday, Dec. 5. While there, Mizzou will take on LIU and No. 5 Nebraska.
