Sophomore Jonathan Seremes becomes the first triple jump national champion in program history.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – University of Missouri track and field's Jonathan Seremes won the triple jump national championship Saturday with a personal-best result of 17.04m (55-11), leading the men's team to finish 23rd overall at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship at Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Six Tigers earned All-America honors at the event. Sterling Scott joined Seremes as a First Team member with an eighth-place finish in the men's triple jump, while Euphenie Andre in the women's triple jump and Kristi Perez-Snyman in women's high jump both earned sixth place finishes to earn First Team Honors in their respective events.Sam Innes, who took 14th in men's weight throw on Friday, and Claudina Diaz, who earned 15th in women's high jump, claimed spots on the Second Team.
"I am incredibly proud of our team and coaches," head coach Brett Halter said. "The NCAA Indoor Championships is certainly in the conversation as the most difficult NCAA Championship to earn a spot in. The Tigers were great both days. We do not take earning All-American Honors for granted. We came home with six All-Americans, a top-25 finish and a National Champion!"
Seremes becomes the program's first national champion in triple jump. Seremes' win marks the fourth time Mizzou has won a national title at the NCAA Indoor Championships on the men's side. Seremes joins Robin Lingle (1,000-yard run, 1965), the 1974 Distance Medley Relay team and Derrick Peterson (800m, 1999) as Mizzou's NCAA indoor champions on the men's side.
Seremes locked up first place following the fourth round, where he recorded 16.94m (55-7) to reclaim the top spot. His final jump broke his program record in the event and ended the indoor season as the best in the nation.
Scott joined Seremes as a First Team All-American in the triple jump. The junior's jump of 16.04m (52-7.5) took eighth place, topping his 11th-place finish at the 2024 event. It's the first time Mizzou's men's team has produced two First Team All-Americans at the NCAA Indoor Championship in the same event since Nick Adcock and Lars Rise finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the heptathlon in 2010.
Perez-Snyman and Diaz began the day for the Tigers in the women's high jump, where Perez-Snyman took sixth place to earn First Team All-America honors. Diaz's 15th-place result gave her a spot as a Second Team All-American. They become the third and fourth Mizzou high jumpers, respectively, to receive the recognition in the indoor event in school history.
In the women's triple jump, Andre ended her indoor career with a new personal best, 13.55m (44-5.5), to take sixth. Her result marked the second time in her career she's earned First Team All-America status, becoming the second Tiger triple jumper to receive the indoors honor twice. She earned All-America honors in 2021, finishing eighth at NCAA indoors.
